What if they brought back the Machine Empire but tried to explain their motives like they thought that they weren't doing anything different to organics that organics weren't already doing to machines?
Like in one episode the monster is a tv themed robot who kidnaps a guy, and sells him into slavery because the guy was a burglar who stole a tv, and tried to pawn it.
I like that idea. It gives the Empire more three demension.
