DinoThunder began as former Power Ranger, Tommy Oliver escaped an a island full of Tyrannodrones ( dinosuar like foot soldiers). After a big explosion, Tommy was able to escape the island ( thinking the that the enemy was gone for good). A few years later Dr. Oliver took a high school teaching job at Reefside High. He taught a class in Palentology. The mysterious Dr. Oliver caught the attention of class reporter Cassidy Cornall along with her friend Devin (  a camera man) . Three of Oliver's students included Conner Macnight ( star soccer player), Ethan James(computer geek), and Kira Ford (musican). Tommy became stuck babysiting his three young pupils when they were given detetion by Principal Randal ( a seemingly cold woman that didn't really like teens). Oliver took the teens to a musuem that he had already planned to go to. When the musum was closed he told the kids to go explore and see if they could find any prehistoric stuff. Oliver became distracted by a robot dinosuar. Meanwhile the three kids found themselves in a secret chamber. There they found the three dino gems. This alerted a dinosuar like villan named Mesogog to  the fact that the Dino Gems that he was after had been moved. He sent an army of Tyrannodrones after the three kids. The three dino gems gave the teens super powers. Ethan recieved super stength.,  Kira recieved  the power to make powerful blast with her vioce, and Conner was given Super Speed.  When they met up with Doctor Oliver they were careful not to let their teacher in on their secret. Kira was soon kidnapped by Mesogog, forcing the teens to confide in their new teacher.

Conner and Ethan discovered that the secret layer  belonged to Oliver. Oliver took his two young students to search for Kira. Kira was confronted by Mesogog and Elsa ( a worrier for Mesagog). Luckly she wa able to escape through a portal. Tommy and his students faced off against the powerful Zeltrax and more Tyrannodrones. As he took his three students home, Olicer promised to explain everything after school. He didn't get the chance as Mesogog unleashed his bio zords against the city. Oliver led his students back to his lab. He explained that he was conducting experiments with Dr. Anton Mercer . They were working on Dinosuar DNA. One day Mercer disapeared and Mesogog showed up. Mesogog took their work and used it for evil. Tommy explained to the kids that three  dinosuar gems were found in the metoer that crashed to Earth ( the one that made the dinosuars extinct). It was no concidence that the teens found the gems. Oliver explains that the gems bonded with the perfectly because they had something inside them that deemed them worthy. Oliver gave his students  three morphers. The morphers would  access the powers of the Dino Gems, turning the teens into Power Rangers.  The Rangers were able to take control of the Bio Zords, turning them into Dinozords. They used their zords to form the Thundersuaurs Megazord. With it they were able to defeat Zeltrax's flying machine. Oliver promised to one day tell the teens his full origin.

Ethan introduced his new friends to the Cyber Cafe ( ran by Hayley). Their they also meant new employee Trent Fernandez. Trent seemed to impress Kira. The Rangers soon were forced into battle with a monster created by Mesogog's geo randomizer. The Rangers were victorious, thanks to their Megazord and their new Dino Riders. After the battle Oliver was kidnapped by Mesogog . The teens found a video archive at Dino Ops where the learned that their teacher had been a Power Ranger. They began to view the history of his time as a Power Ranger ( along with the general history of the Ranger teams in general). They also learned that Hayley was working with Tommy as the tech specialist. She was the one that built the morphers. While Hayley tried to find a way to get into Mesagog's lab, the team continued to watched their legacy. Mesogog wanted Tommy to unleash a new power source ( in which Oliver refused ). The Rangers were able to use their new Cycles to battle their way through a portal to Mesogog's lab. There they  saved Doctor Oliver and took the power source. When the Black Dino Gem was revealed to be the power source, Oliver used a mopher he obtained to become the Black Ranger ( with the power of invisiblity). The Rangers won the battle. Tommy controlled the Brachio Carrier Zord.

The team continued to train with their  teammates and mentor. Mesogog was hell bent on capturing the gems ( they were improtant for  his plan to bring prehistoric times back to the earth). Zeltrax had some mysterious vendeeta agianst Dr Oliver.  Elsa was Principal Randall in disguise. Mesagog ordered her to ger closer to the Doctor. She tried to set the team up by using one of Mesgog's dino eggs to unleash the Stagozord. The Rangers were able to take control of the zord and use it as an aid in the fight against one of Mesogog's monsters. Other zords began to pop up. The Rangers added them to their arsonal.

Devin and Cassidy continued to nose around. Cassidy was always trying to become famous and always wanted the big story. Devin was more humble but was very loyal to his friend. For a time they would try to find the Rangers idenities in order to work for a news station. Somehow their plans for their various enterprises would always go wrong. The wacky duo would be around in the background all season.

Anton Mercer resurfaced during all this, shocking Tommy. For some reason Mercer gave his old partner the cold shoulder. It was revealed that Trent was his adopted son. Trent's real parents died while working for him so he took their only son in as his own. He wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and looked down upon is talent for drawing. Trent began to notice wierd things around their house. He was freaked out when he journeyed through  a portal in his dad's office. Mercer tried to calm his  son down. Mesogog prepared to uleash a hidden  power source he obtained, the White Dino Gem. Elsa finished off  a morpher for the evil encoded Dino Gem. Trent found Mesogog's lab through a portal and accidently took the Dino Gem and Morpher. The gem created an alternate and evil personality for the man, turning him into the Evil White Ranger. The four Rangers were over whelmed by this new enemy. Trent meanwhile became conflicted by his new alternate personality and could barely function in his everyday life. The Rangers were able to obtain a new zord but so did the White Ranger ( The White Draho Zord). He took over the Stegazord to make his own megazord. Conner was able to find his Super Dino Mode ( from deep inside himself) allowing him to best the White Ranger in battle. The White Ranger made it clear to Mesogog he wouldn't work for him.  Tommy soon found put Trent was the White Ranger but was in encased in amber before anyone could find out. Kira would eventully learn about Trent's true idenity. She wanted to try to help Trent. Mesogog captured the White Ranger and descovered he was Anton Mercer's son. Trent was able to escape but told Kira to stay way. He didn't want to hurt her and needed to go away before the White Ranger's personality took him over fully.

A strange metoer changed the Ranger's personalities. The personality shifted team was able to defeat Mesogogs latest monster. With help from Trent ( fully turned good with help form the metoer). The meotor freed Dr. Oliver from his amber prison. Unfortuantly, as a side effect he couldn't demorph. Trent had selcomed to the full effect of the White Ranger evil personality. He revealed to the Rangers that his Dino Gem gave him the power of camflauge. The other Rangers were soon able to use their Super Dino Mode.  Trent made a temporary allaince with Mesogog. He faked a turn back to good in order to trap some of the zords. His plan worked and he was able to destoty Mesogog's monster after the dinosuar villan's' betrayal. While Oliver fiegned sickness at school, Mercer took over his teaching duties. Trent began to hide in Mesogog's lab. He discoverd that Mercer was Mesogog.  Trent tried to create a mutiney against Mesogog with Zeltrax. Zeltrax tipped Mesogog off, Trent said he was with him and jioned Mesogog's army. Tommy learned that Zeltrax was his old rival, Terrance Smith. Smith was up for a job  with Mercer  but Oliver got it instead. Later Smitty was injured in an experiment but Mesogog rebuilt him as Zeltrax. Trent amd Zeltrax were at odds . Trent beat him in a battle to see who was Mesogog's number 1.

Mercer confronted Trent. He told him he never wanted him to be evil. He said he was experimenting on dinosaur DNA. As a result he created his Msogog alter ego. He wanted no part in Mesogog's plan. Trent told Mercer it was too late for him to go back. Mesogog sent out a copy monster. Zeltrax pointed Mesogog to the fact that Trent  had destroyed  some of their experments.  Mesagog used the life force extractor on Trent, in an attempt to get rid of him. Meanwhile the Ranger's battled the copy monster and Zeltrax. Mercer remerged and freed his son. But not before Trents morpher got zaped. This eliminated the evil coding programed into  the White Dino Gen and restored Trent to his normal self. Mercer told Trent to run before  Mesogog remerged. He told him to help the Rangers. Trent promised he would not betray Mercer's secret. Trent helped Olvier fight Zeltrax while the Ranger's destoryed the copying monster. Trent convinced Oliver that he was good for real this time. With the other Rangers approval Trent jioned the team. Zeltrax used pieces of the copy monster to create the evil White Ranger clone. The clone had all the evil of the White Ranger, with none of Trent's goodness.

Oliver and Trent obtained a powerul artifact . When all the Rangers contributed their powers Connor was able to become the Trassic Ranger ( an extension of his Red Ranger powers). Connor obtained the Mezadon Rover  and its Megazord form. Oliver was forced to destory Zeltrax on his new airship.  Ethan began to become friends with Cassidy. Kira tired to be friends with her and got her a job at the news station she interned at (internship dealt with earlier in season ). Cassidy was able to get the job. Oliver had Hayley used a new power source in an attempt to restore him to normal. The power source ended up making him invisible. Ethan and Cassidy tried to go out on a date. They both decided just to be friends. Oliver used his Black Dino Gem on himself in an attempt to return to normal. He was restored to his normal  unmorphed self, but was made comatose as a result. In a battle of the minds Oliver defeated his former Ranger forms to free himself from his comatosed state. He gained his Super Dino Mode in a battle to help the Rangers.

Zeltrax returned with no loyalty to anyone. Zeltrax recieved a powerup from the nector of a powerful Tree. Conner was able to obtain a Mega Battle to defeat Zeltrax. Zeltrax lost his power up but remained a threat to the Rangers and Mesogog. As Mesogog's forces searched for their former comrad, Zeltrax found he was losing energy and needed Mesogog to fully restore him . Mercer continued to try to control his dark half and Trent became more worried. Trent soon had his own problem when he found out the morphing gird could only support one White Ranger. Trent battled his evil clone while the Rangers battled a powerful monster sent by Mesogog. Trent destoryed White Ranger Clone for good. The Rangers used all their zords to destory the planet monster.

Lothor escaped the Abyss of Evil. He tricked the Wind Rangers into putting on their morphers (tampering with them first). The morpher instantly made them evil. Lothor sent them against the Dino Thunder Rangers. Mesogog sought an allaince with Lothor. Lothor already had captured the Wind Ninjas ( he also recruited Marah and Kaphi back into his army). Blake, Hunter and Cam retireve their powers from the abyss. They were able to restore the Wind Rangers to normal. Both Ranger teams, teamed up to defeat Lothor and Mesogog's combined assault. Marah and Kapri revealed their allaigences to the Rangers, given them the captured Ninja Students. Mesogog traped Lothor in one of his lab tubes. The Ninja Storm Ranger used up all their remaining powers. All the Rangers gathered together to watch Blake race.

Elsa tried to beat the Rangers in their dreams, using the geo randomizer. The Rangers were a still able to win their battles in the off the wall dreams. Trent meant a famous comic book writer he idolized. Elsa tried to use the writers talents to trap the Ranger in a comic book that ended with their destruction. Trent was able to  draw himself into the comic book as well, allowing the team to escape and defeat their enemy. Mercer secretly helped fund a project the comic book artist worked on with Trent. Showing that he accepted his son's dream for the first time in his life.

It became increasingly hard for Trent to keep his secret. Meanwhile, Mesogog was becoming very frustated with Elsa's failures and threatened to destory her. She took a poweful card in Ethan's card game when Ethan was at school. She was disguised as Randal and took the card because it was against school rules to play with cards. When Tommy went into Randals office to talk her into given Ethan back the card ,she accident changed into Elsa in front of Oliver. With that secret out the Rangers decided they had to prepare more than ever to fight the forces of Mesogog. Trent secretly confronted Elsa in Mesogog's lab, in hopes of getting the card back. Elsa turned the card into monster and had it attack Trent. She than sent the monster after the Rangers. Trent was able to recover and jion his friends. Esla made it known that he had a secret. Trent told the Rangers that he just went to Mesogog's lab to get the card back. After the card monster was defeated Mesogog again threatened Elsa. She decided to make a move and set things up for the Rangers to learn Mesogog's idenity. She planted the card in his pocket. While Mercer was at the school on bussiness, seeing the card fall from his pocket made the Rangers suspecious of him. He began to turn into Mesogog. Upon following him they learned his big secret and how Trent knew the whole time. The Rangers confronted Trent and Oliver threatened to take his powers away without a good excuse. Trent said he was only protecting his father. Mesogog punished Elsa or her betrayal and used a new formula to separate himself from Mercer entirely. Trent saved Conner in battle against Mesogog's latest monster. The Rangers allowed Trent to remain as a Ranger and he vowed to help them defeat Mesogog for good.

Mesogog created a device tht would turn humans into mutant dinosuars like him. He just needed the Dino Gems to power the device. To get extra power for the device he stripped Elsa of all her power, causing her to disapear. Trent made a deal with Mesogog, he would give him the gems if he could have his dad back ( Trent watched Mesogog torture Mercer and knew his father was now separate from Mesogog). The Rangers saved a civilian from Zeltrax ( who had a new power up) and realized she was really Elsa. The Rangers learned she was under Mesogog's power the whole time she fought them. Trent told the Rangers of his plan. It would allow them to open a portal for the team to enter Mesogog's Island. He just needed the Sino Gems for it to work. The Rangers reluctantly gave Trent their gems. Hayley polited the new Mobile Assualt Vichule for the Rangers. Mesogog double crossed Trent and took the gems. But Trent was able to open a portal as planned. As Mesogog prepared to use his weapon, the Rangers fought Tyrannodrones to clear the way for Hayley to blast Mesogog' weapon away. Hayley suuceeded in destorying the weapon, causing a chain reaction that caused the lab and the island to blow up. Trent was able to retrieve the gems (and his father). In the end everyone made it out ok. Zeltrax had followed the Rangers back to base and destoryed it. He captured Esla in the process. The Rangers returned to their base to find it destoryed. They confronted Zeltrax and his new Zelzord. Tommy and Kira resuced Elsa from the Zel Zord. Kira and Dr. Oliver than finished off Zeltrax. To destory the Zelzord the Rangers self destructed the Mezadon Megazord, and the Thundersuarus Megazord.  Mesogog emerged and revealed a more powerful form ( he obtained it by absorbing Dino Gem energy). The Rangers battle the monsterious villian for the last time. Using the Dino Gems they were able to destory Mesogog for good. As a consequence the Dino Gems lost all power and became just artifacts. Devin and Cassidy learned the idenity of the Rangers. Rather than turn their tape in to the news they gave it to the Rangers since it was the right thing to do.
