MMPR 1 Facts

1. MMPR used footage form the sentai show Zyuranger. It was the first pr season. It actually took Saban entertainment nearly a decade to get the show picked up. Their was a piolet produced years before the shows release that used Footage from the sentai called, Biomen.

3. The  MMPR pilot for Fox Kids was much different than the first episode of the show. A Different actor played the Trini Character. Zordon looked different and was called Zoltar( with a different vioce). Bulk and Skull had their own gang. The Rangers hung out in a bowling ally instead of the juice bar. The piolet later reaired on a fox kids special as a celeberation of the shows anniversy.

4. Despite owning Saban Entertainment (and acting as an Executive Producer on the show),  Haim Saban had almost no creative influence on Power Rangers. Shulki Levy served as the show runner with producer Jonathon Tzachor. Robotech alum Tony Oliver was one of the shows earlier story editors. Future key contributors Doug Sloan  and Judd Lynn also worked on the show among many others ( as a writer and production hand respectivily).

4. Earlier in MMPR season 1's development the Green Ranger character was going to be a biker named Rocky. This character was dropped in favor of the Tommy character.

5. Doug Sloan appeared in an early episdoe of MMPR as Kimberly's Uncle Steve. This was in the episode "Fowl Play in the Sky."

6. Originally Jonathon Tzachor wanted to have Tommy die in Jason's arms (much like his sentai counterpart (Braui) did in Geki's). This idea was nixed by Jonathon's surpriors.

7.. Jason David Franks' role as  Tommy Oliver was orginally supposed to be a temporay character when introduced. He was later going to be the star of the new Saban show entitled, Cybertron ( which ultimately became VR Troopers). He was so popular with the kids that the  producers of the show decided to bring Tommy back after his brief hatius from the show.

8. According to TV guide Jason David Frank ( who was and still is a very gifted Martial Arts Master)  was hired based on his martial arts ability. They decided to hire him and  work on his acting abilities as they went along.

9. The first season of Power Rangers was non union. The actors on season 1 were grossly underpaid and would be for quite some time.

10. "Doomsday" was originally supposed to be the last episode of season 1. But the show did so well Fox ordered another batch of episodes. Toei ( company that owns sentai) was commissoned  to create extra Zyuranger footage not seen in the japenese show. The footage was called Zyu 2 footage.
