View Full Version : Why does PR have such a stigma to it?

Other children's brands have adult fan followings that don't seem to come with stigmas. But PR seems to have this stigma like its somehow strange to be be a pr fan.

It really is hypocritical since a lot of these franchises have the same tone.

Probably because for us born in the 80s a lot of those earlier franchises grew up with many of our peers. Power Rangers is from the 90s and really was for the millennials.

But a lot of that age group are grown up too. So that shouldn't be an issue.

I don't let other people's opinions effect my enjoyment of the show.

Niether do I but its still an interesting question to discuss.

It is kind of silly that a franchise like Transformers would be considered above Power Rangers.

Funny story , members of my family thought that it was weird that I still watched Power Rangers...Were known to watch Disney cartoon movies themselves....And didn't understand why that wasn't much different....Even when Disney owned PR! lol

I do think the stigma has a lot to do with the age difference between 80s kids and millennial s.. But I do think PR nostalgia is more cool than it was ten years ago. I gave had friends reminisce over the old series in a way that wasn't condescending at all. Plus parents are rediscovering the show through their own kids. We even get a lot of PR updates on science fiction sites, that never happened in the early 2001.

I think as we go on the stigma won't quite be so strong. At some point pr fans will be as old as the first transformers fans are now. And really the early fans are already adults too.

Power Rangers is weird. Its the one show that the general public think has been of the year for decades. Yet keeps going on and on. Its funny how we are getting MMPR Nostalgia with the new movie but the regular show has been on almost continuously since.

I think most people apreciate MMPR..The other stuff not , so much.

MMPR is the best by far. So thats not a big shock.

Some people just take themselves too seriously. Who cares if anyone likes Power Rangers...Non fans should just not watch.

I think its just hard for non fans to understand why we like the show. They also don't know much about it. Since they don't follow it.

Power Rangers is great! The only stigma it ever has had is when it tries to go too dark.

That is pretty silly. Especially since Disney did such a great job on their seasons, just like their movies. The rest of the season isn't at that level. Save for MMPR of course.

Its because the tv show is targeted towards children. Many of us watched when we were young and decided to keep watching. For people that stopped or never watched, its hard for them to understand.

The funny part is having such a big problem. with someone watching a show, means you are actually the one worrying too much about it. Because in moderation, being a fan of a kids show isn't a big deal. Why waste time worrying why other people like a show you are never going to watch?

I don't think it really has a stigma anymore. Not since the first generation of fans became adults. The older generations had no connection with the show. The younger generation does.

The only stigma is on the stuff after MMPR.

I don't think PR has a negative stigma. It seems pretty popular to me...With all the toys and the new movie.

Its because of the source material. Its hard to keep a show like Power Rangers seriously.

I think it has gotten better. It is definitely a more respected brand now. Especially with the new movie coming out.

The stigma went away with Disney backing Power Rangers. But Saban Brands haven't been able to give it the same kind of credibility.
