Offs
Take Offs VR Troopers VR
Troopers was the first take of of Power Rangers, Done
by Saban Rntertainment, V Troopers featured a similar concept as
Power Rangers. Taken from two other japensee shows, VR Troopers was
another
live ation show that blended American footage with japense footage. It
as about three young hereos ( slightly odler than the mmpr kids) who
were
given Power to Fight the Evil Grimlord.
Super Human Samuria Cyber Squad Super Human Samura Cyber Squad was made around the time of VR Troopers. It was not made by Saban Entertainment however. It was made by DIC Entertainment. Still it came from the same genra as Power Rangers. The show used footage from Japan show called Gridman. It was about a few ordinary kids who got special powers to jump into a computer to fight a rogue computer program named Kilocon. Masked Rider Masked Rider came out a little after the above shows. It was actually a direct spin off of Power Rangers and made off of Saban Entertainment. It used footage from the sentai show Kamen Rider. It was about an alien Prince named Dex, who was from a conquerd world who was sent to earth to stop the evil Count Dragon from conquering earth. He was armed with the legendary Mask Rider powers. Big Bad Beetleborgs Big Bad Beetleborgs was another take off that was made by Saban. It was about three kids who found a ghost that made them into their favorite superheros. Unfortunatly the comic villians were released from the comics becuase of this and the three kids had to fight them,. Beatleborgs was more lighthearted than the above shows but was pretty remakerable in that it had a way of conbining three distinct situations every episode. Power Ranger take off about four Kids who
were given the power by an ancient worrier to become sentinals and
fight
evil. It was not made by Saban Entertianment and aired on the USA
Network.
It aired around the timeframe of VR Troopers and Super Human Samuria
Cyber
Squad.
Voltron
Voltron is
actually not a take off of Power Rangers. Argubaly Power Rangers is a
take off of Voltron orat least an heir to its place in the genre.
Voltron was imported from a japense series to the US in the early
eighties. It told the story of five space explores that discovered the
power of mighty lions. Each lion could jion together to form the mighty
mecha known as Voltron. Voltron rotinly faced gigantic monsters. Power
Ranger did not steal Voltron's ideas. Voltron was imported from another
Toei ( the company that produced Super Sentai) show. PR's direct
influcence is Super Sentai, which predates Voltron ( at least the
american version). A second incarnation of Voltron was made using
a compeletly unrelated Japenese Series. This is affectionaly know as
Vichule Voltron. Years later a short lived the demensionally
animated continuation of Lion Voltron was made.
